💻San Diego Online Host Meetup – Human Trafficking Training

Join the Local San Diego Airbnb Host Community Leaders for a free webinar on Human Trafficking on Wednesday, May 8, at 6 PM with special guest Detective Sargent Mitchell from the San Diego Police Department. During this virtual event, attendees will learn:

  • How to spot signs of human trafficking
  • What to do if you suspect human trafficking is happening

This is an important topic for all STR hosts and owners to be educated on. The City’s STR ordinance also requires all STR permit holders to complete a course in human trafficking to operate in good standing. If you are unable to attend, be sure to register so you can get a copy of the recording!

 Protect Your STR:

Recently, the Mission Beach Town Council reviewed proposed STR changes that, if passed, would have significantly impacted STR operators. While the Town Council did not pass the proposed changes, other town councils are trying to take similar action. Read SDSTRA’s latest update here for more information

While Mission Beach saw great support for STRs in the Town Council, STR operators are still underrepresented in Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach, and we need to change that. Both Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach have voted and passed resolutions attacking short-term rentals and are aggressively lobbying the City Council to:

  1. Limit permits to property owners – this would kill >1,600 licenses!
  2. Limit permits to 25% of the units in a building – this would kill >500 licenses!
  3. Cap Tier-3 STRs at 2% of housing per planning area – this would kill >1,000 licenses!

If you have property in Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, or Ocean Beach, please sign up for your local town councils or ask your managers/teams to do so if they have not already.
